Markus-Thompson Construction Inc. has designed and built custom homes in Eugene and Springfield, Oregon since 1976, when Curt Markus and Howard Thompson teamed up to build energy-efficient homes with passive solar design and high insulation values. Today the company is run by partners Nick Skelton, Chris Skelton and Andrew Sherman from our office at 3838 Kathryn Ave in Springfield, Oregon. Over the years we have designed and built hundreds of homes, remodels and additions across Lane County, and most of our work still comes from client referrals.
Design-build: one team from first sketch to final walkthrough
With design-build, you are a partner on the design team from day one. Nick, who holds an architecture degree from the University of Oregon, does our design work and coordinates with engineers and building officials. You can choose from our library of proven plans, have us adapt one to your lot and needs, or start a fully custom design. See design & permits for how that process works.
Because the same company designs and builds the house, the drawings are made with construction in mind, and questions on site get answered by the people who drew the plans.
In-house crews for the work that matters most
Our crews are trained in foundations, framing carpentry, finish carpentry and forming and finishing concrete. Doing much of the work ourselves lets us keep quality high, hold schedules and keep job sites neat and clean. Andrew Sherman, who became a partner in 2023, is an experienced framing and finish carpenter who brings both detail and production skills to the company. For the trades we don’t self-perform, we work with trusted local subcontractors.
Open-book budgeting
Before construction starts you get a detailed fixed-cost budget, and costs are tracked openly all the way through the project, so you always know where the money is going.
What we build
- Custom homes on in-town lots and rural parcels, with tight, well-insulated construction and performance testing available.
- Aging-in-place features such as wider halls, 36″ doors and barrier-free showers, on request.
- Remodels, additions and ADUs, including garages and shops.
- Commercial projects, with experience on residential care facilities, restaurants, apartments, offices, industrial buildings and warehouses.
- Concrete foundations and flatwork, and panelized framing packages for owner-builders.
Recent work: Bowmont Drive, Eugene
Our most recent custom home is a 3,764 sq ft house on Bowmont Drive in Eugene, finished early in 2026. We designed and built this house as the Design / Build General Contractor, from site work and foundation through panelized wall framing, redwood siding and finished interiors.
