Be your own general contractor, without managing the shell
Markus-Thompson Construction Inc. offers a special service for homeowners who want to be their own general contractor. We take your plan, or provide one of our stock plans, and deliver a complete framed and sided shell. You get one contractor and one schedule for a major portion of your project, and you take it from there.
This works well for people who want to save on general contractor overhead and are comfortable managing the interior trades, such as plumbing, electrical, insulation and finishes, but don’t want to coordinate excavators, concrete crews, framers and material suppliers to get a weathertight structure. The shell is the part of a house where experience, scheduling and material ordering matter most.
What the package includes
- Excavation
- Foundation and flatwork, by our own concrete crews
- Framing labor
- Siding labor
- Windows
- All framing and siding materials
Along with the labor and materials, we manage ordering and scheduling everything needed to build the shell. We take responsibility for completing that portion of the project on time and at a competitive cost.

Why panelized framing
In 1990, with a grant from the state, we opened our own wall panel shop to build framed wall panels for residential and commercial projects. Combining our design-build experience with panelization gives higher productivity and more consistent quality: walls are framed in the shop, delivered to the site, and set in place, often with a crane. Our panelized projects now span Washington, Oregon, California, Mexico, Japan, Korea and Belize.
We use the same system on the homes we build ourselves. At the Bowmont Drive house in Eugene, panelized walls were craned into place on the new floor framing.
The same shop-built approach suits commercial work too, and over the years our panels have gone into homes, apartments and large commercial buildings.
Experienced framing crews
Our crews are trained framing carpenters. Partner Andrew Sherman, who joined as a partner in 2023, is an experienced framing and finish carpenter who brings both detail and production skills to the company. He leads the company alongside partners Nick and Chris Skelton.
